The Age of Ash
Shifters occupy the lowest rung on societies social ladder. Social outcasts, they wander the ash wastes in ‘Packs’ that live on the detritus of society and fear making an enemy of the major political groups. They are often seen as barely above the animals which their bodies resemble. Although this negative sterotype is often indicative of the brutal means through which their socities operate, it still may be misleading. Everyone within the Age of Ash needs to fight for survival. The fact that shifters are no exception makes them little different from the various types of Elves which roam the landscape.
Oddly enough, Shifters are being increasingly controlled and perhaps even manipulated by Tieflings. After the latter race’s unity was crushed by an alliance of Hunters and Sand Elves the Tieflings scattered. Those which survived without integrating themselves into Raja’s already established crime networks often use their intuitive talent for manipulation to rise to prominence within Shifter clans. Now most shifters follow charismatic Tiefling leaders. Perhaps the shifters see their new leaders as capable of leading them to a better life…. Or perhaps they are just being misused.
