The Age of Ash
The Arkhosian desert is a graveyard. These dunes were once home to massive empires which built epic palaces, spiraling towers, and grand gardens. But alas, the golden area of the gilded age has long since past. Nevertheless, one can still catch glimpses of it if he knows where to look. Once the countryside was littered with thousands of statues. No one knows why they were built. Maybe they served as temples which weary travels could rest before, or perhaps they acted as nodes amidst a great arcane grid. What is known is that some of these statues have survived. Granted, they are usually in pieces, or at the very least so weather beaten that one can only discern a roughly humanoid shape; hence why they are now called ghost stones. But nevertheless some of these statues remain. It is said that a skilled scholar can interpret the eroded writing which often appears on these statues bases, although these engraving are so ancient that it seems unlikely.
